17: A Igreja e Sua Missão

1. A Igreja como Corpo de Cristo

· 1 Coríntios 12:12-14: “Pois, assim como o corpo é um e tem muitos membros, e todos os membros, embora muitos, constituem um só corpo, assim também com relação a Cristo. Pois, em um só Espírito, todos nós fomos batizados em um só corpo: judeus, quer gregos, quer escravos, quer livres, e a todos foi dado beber de um só Espírito. Pois o corpo não é composto de um só membro, mas de muitos.”

· Efésios 1:22-23: “E sujeitou todas as coisas a seus pés e, para ser o cabeça sobre todas as coisas, o constituiu como igreja, que é o seu corpo, a plenitude daquele que enche tudo em todas as coisas.”

· Romanos 12:4-5: “Porque assim como em um corpo temos muitos membros, e os membros não têm todos a mesma operação, assim também nós, embora muitos, somos um só corpo em Cristo, e individualmente uns dos outros.”

· Colossenses 1:18: “E ele é a cabeça do corpo, da igreja. Ele é o princípio, o primogênito dentre os mortos, para que em tudo tenha a preeminência.”

2. A Natureza e a Função da Igreja

· Mateus 16:18: “E eu te digo que tu és Pedro, e sobre esta pedra edificarei a minha igreja, e as portas do inferno não prevalecerão contra ela.”

· Efésios 2:19-22: “Assim, vocês já não são estrangeiros nem forasteiros, mas concidadãos dos santos e membros da família de Deus, edificados sobre o fundamento dos apóstolos e dos profetas, tendo Jesus Cristo como pedra angular, no qual todo o edifício é ajustado e cresce para santuário santo no Senhor. Nele, vocês também estão sendo juntamente edificados para habitação de Deus no Espírito.”

· 1 Timóteo 3:15: “Se eu demorar, fiques sabendo como se deve proceder na casa de Deus, que é a igreja do Deus vivo, coluna e baluarte da verdade.”

· Atos 2:42: “E eles se dedicavam à doutrina dos apóstolos e à comunhão, ao partir do pão e às orações.”

3. O Mandato para os Cristãos Fazerem Discípulos

· Mateus 28:18-20: “E, aproximando-se Jesus, disse-lhes: Foi-me dada toda a autoridade no céu e na terra. Portanto, ide e fazei discípulos de todas as nações, batizando-os em nome do Pai, e do Filho, e do Espírito Santo, ensinando-os a guardar tudo o que eu vos tenho ordenado. E eis que eu estou convosco todos os dias, até a consumação dos séculos.”

· Marcos 16:15: “E disse-lhes: Ide por todo o mundo e pregai o evangelho a toda criatura.”

· Lucas 24:46-47: “Assim está escrito que o Cristo havia de padecer e ressuscitar dentre os mortos ao terceiro dia, e que em seu nome seria pregado o arrependimento para remissão dos pecados, a todas as nações, começando por Jerusalém.”

· João 20:21: “Disse-lhes Jesus outra vez: Paz seja convosco. Assim como o Pai me enviou, eu também vos envio.”

4. O papel do culto e da comunhão na Igreja

· Hebreus 10:24-25: “E consideremo-nos uns aos outros, para nos incentivarmos ao amor e às boas obras. Não deixemos de reunir-nos, como é costume de alguns, mas encorajemo-nos uns aos outros, ainda mais quando vocês veem que se aproxima o Dia.”

· Colossenses 3:16: “Habite, ricamente, em vós a palavra de Cristo; instruí-vos e aconselhai-vos uns aos outros em toda a sabedoria; cantai salmos, hinos e cânticos espirituais a Deus, com gratidão em vosso coração.”

· Atos 2:42-47: “E eles se dedicavam ao ensino dos apóstolos, à comunhão, ao partir do pão e às orações… E, frequentando o templo todos os dias, e partindo o pão em suas casas, comiam com alegria e generosidade de coração, louvando a Deus e caindo na graça de todo o povo.”

· 1 Coríntios 11:23-26: “Porque eu recebi do Senhor o que também vos entreguei: que o Senhor Jesus, na noite em que foi traído, tomou o pão e, tendo dado graças, o partiu e disse: Isto é o meu corpo, que é dado por vós; fazei isto em memória de mim. Da mesma forma, depois da ceia, tomou o cálice, dizendo: Este cálice é a nova aliança no meu sangue. Fazei isto, todas as vezes que o beberdes, em memória de mim.”

5. Separação dos Valores Mundanos

· Romanos 12:2: “Não se amoldem ao padrão deste mundo, mas transformem-se pela renovação da sua mente, para que sejam capazes de experimentar e comprovar qual seja a boa, agradável e perfeita vontade de Deus.”

· 2 Coríntios 6:14-17: “Não vos prendais a um jugo desigual com os incrédulos. Pois, que sociedade tem a justiça com a iniquidade? Ou que comunhão tem a luz com as trevas? Que consenso há entre Cristo e Belial? Ou que parte tem o fiel com o incrédulo? Que consenso tem o templo de Deus com os ídolos? Pois nós somos templo do Deus vivo…”

· Tiago 4:4: “Adúlteros! Vocês não sabem que a amizade com o mundo é inimizade contra Deus? Portanto, qualquer que quiser ser amigo do mundo constitui-se inimigo de Deus.”

· 1 João 2:15-17: “Não amem o mundo, nem o que há no mundo. Se alguém ama o mundo, o amor do Pai não está nele. Pois tudo o que há no mundo — a concupiscência da carne, a concupiscência dos olhos e a soberba das posses — não vem do Pai, mas sim do mundo. Ora, o mundo passa, e a sua concupiscência, mas aquele que faz a vontade de Deus permanece para sempre.”

· Tito 2:11-12: “Porque a graça de Deus se manifestou salvadora a todos os homens, educando-os a renunciar à impiedade e às paixões mundanas, e a viver, nesta presente era, de maneira sensata, justa e piedosa.”

The Church and Its Mission

1. The Church as the Body of Christ

· 1 Corinthians 12: 12-14: “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many.”

· Ephesians 1: 22-23: “And he put all things under his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of him who fills all in all.”

· Romans 12: 4-5: “For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.”

· Colossians 1: 18: “And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.”

2. The Nature and Function of the Church

· Matthew 16: 18: “And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”

· Ephesians 2: 19-22: “So then you are no longer strangers and aliens, but you are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Christ Jesus himself being the cornerstone, in whom the whole structure, being joined together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you also are being built together into a dwelling place for God by the Spirit.”

· 1 Timothy 3: 15: “If I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.”

· Acts 2: 42: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”

3. The Mandate for Christians to Make Disciples

· Matthew 28: 18-20: “And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’”

· Mark 16: 15: “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’”

· Luke 24: 46-47: “Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer and on the third day rise from the dead, and that repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be proclaimed in his name to all nations, beginning from Jerusalem.”

· John 20: 21: “Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, even so I am sending you.’”

4. The Role of Worship and Church Fellowship

· Hebrews 10: 24-25: “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.”

· Colossians 3: 16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

· Acts 2: 42-47: “And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers… And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people.”

· 1 Corinthians 11: 23-26: “For I received from the Lord what I also delivered to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, ‘This is my body, which is for you. Do this in remembrance of me.’ In the same way also he took the cup, after supper, saying, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Do this, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.’”

5. Separation from Worldly Values

· Romans 12: 2: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

· 2 Corinthians 6: 14-17: “Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God…”

· James 4: 4: “You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.”

· 1 John 2: 15-17: “Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride in possessions—is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”

· Titus 2: 11-12: “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.”
