1. Comandos diretos para apoiar missionários — Cristãos são ordenados a espalhar o Evangelho, exigindo envio e apoio.

“E, aproximando-se Jesus, disse-lhes: Foi-me dada toda a autoridade no céu e na terra. Portanto, ide e fazei discípulos de todas as nações, batizando-os em nome do Pai, e do Filho, e do Espírito Santo, ensinando-os a guardar tudo o que eu vos tenho ordenado. E eis que eu estou convosco todos os dias, até a consumação dos séculos.” (Mateus 28:18-20)

“E disse-lhes: Ide por todo o mundo e pregai o evangelho a toda criatura.” (Marcos 16:15)

Como, pois, invocarão aquele em quem não creram? E como crerão naquele de quem não ouviram falar? E como ouvirão, se não houver quem pregue? E como pregarão, se não forem enviados? Como está escrito: ‘Quão formosos são os pés dos que anunciam o evangelho!’” (Romanos 10:14-15)

Amados, vocês procedem fielmente em tudo o que fazem por estes irmãos, estrangeiros como são, que testemunharam o seu amor diante da igreja. Vocês farão bem em enviá-los em sua jornada de maneira digna de Deus, pois eles partiram por causa do Nome, sem aceitar nada dos gentios. Portanto, devemos apoiar pessoas como essas, para que sejamos cooperadores da verdade. (3 João 1:5-8)

Quem recebe um profeta por ser profeta receberá a recompensa de profeta; e quem recebe um justo por ser justo receberá a recompensa de justo. E quem der, ainda que seja apenas um copo de água fria a um destes pequeninos, por ser meu discípulo, em verdade vos digo que de modo algum perderá a sua recompensa. (Mateus 10:41-42)

E vocês, filipenses, sabem que, no princípio do Evangelho, quando parti da Macedônia, nenhuma igreja se uniu a mim em dar e receber, exceto vocês somente. E também em Tessalônica, uma e outra vez, vocês me enviaram auxílio para as minhas necessidades. Não que eu busque a dádiva, mas busco o fruto que aumente o crédito de vocês. Já recebi o pagamento integral e ainda mais. Estou bem suprido, tendo recebido de Epafrodito as ofertas que vocês me enviaram, uma oferta de aroma agradável, um sacrifício aceitável e agradável a Deus. (Filipenses 4:15-18)

3. Princípios relativos à provisão de missionários — Os missionários merecem apoio material.

“Fiquem na mesma casa, comendo e bebendo do que tiverem, pois o trabalhador é digno do seu salário. Não andem de casa em casa.” (Lucas 10:7)

Ou será que somos só eu e Barnabé que não temos o direito de deixar de trabalhar para viver? Quem serve como soldado às suas próprias custas? Quem planta uma vinha sem comer de seus frutos? Quem apascenta um rebanho sem tomar leite? Digo eu estas coisas por autoridade humana? Não diz a Lei o mesmo? Pois está escrito na Lei de Moisés: ‘Não amordace o boi quando estiver debulhando o cereal’. É pelos bois que Deus se importa? Não fala certamente por nós? Foi escrito por nós, porque o lavrador deve arar com esperança, e o debulhador deve debulhar com esperança de participar da colheita. Se semeamos coisas espirituais entre vocês, será demais colhermos de vocês coisas materiais? Se outros têm direito a esse direito, não temos nós ainda mais? Contudo, não usamos desse direito, mas suportamos tudo para não colocar obstáculo ao evangelho de Cristo. Vocês não sabem que os que servem no templo comem do templo, e os que servem no altar participam das ofertas sacrificais? Da mesma forma, o Senhor ordenou aos que anunciam o evangelho que vivam do evangelho. (1 Coríntios 9:6-14)

“Não adquiram ouro, nem prata, nem cobre para os seus cintos, nem sacola para o caminho, nem duas túnicas, nem sandálias, nem um cajado, pois digno é o trabalhador do seu alimento.” (Mateus 10:9–10)

4. Razões pelas quais cristãos e igrejas devem apoiar missionários — Obediência, parceria, propagação do Evangelho, amor, alcance do Evangelho, recompensas compartilhadas.

“Por causa da cooperação que vocês têm dado ao evangelho desde o primeiro dia até agora .” (Filipenses 1:5)

“Depois disso, olhei, e eis uma grande multidão que ninguém podia contar, de todas as nações, tribos, povos e línguas, em pé, diante do trono e diante do Cordeiro, vestidos de vestiduras brancas, com palmas nas mãos.” ( Apocalipse 7:9)

“E, por isso, procuro pregar o evangelho, não onde Cristo já foi nomeado, para não edificar sobre fundamento alheio.” (Romanos 15:20)

5. Doações financeiras e apoio sacrificial — Doações financeiras/materiais essenciais para o trabalho missionário e um ato de adoração.

Irmãos, queremos que vocês saibam da graça de Deus concedida às igrejas da Macedônia, pois, em meio a severas provas de tribulação, a abundância de alegria e a extrema pobreza deles transbordaram em riquezas de generosidade. Pois eles contribuíram conforme suas posses, como posso testemunhar, e até mesmo acima de suas posses, voluntariamente, pedindo-nos com insistência a graça de participarem da assistência aos santos. E isso, não como esperávamos, mas a si mesmos se entregaram primeiramente ao Senhor, e depois a nós, pela vontade de Deus. (2 Coríntios 8:1-5)

Ora, este é o ponto: quem semeia pouco, pouco também ceifará; e quem semeia com fartura, com fartura também ceifará. Cada um contribua conforme propôs em seu coração, não com pesar nem por obrigação, pois Deus ama quem dá com alegria. E Deus é poderoso para fazer abundar em vocês toda a graça, a fim de que, tendo sempre, em tudo, ampla suficiência, vocês superabundeis em toda boa obra. Como está escrito: ‘Ele distribuiu generosamente, deu aos pobres; a sua justiça dura para sempre’. Aquele que dá semente ao que semeia e pão para alimento também suprirá e multiplicará a sementeira de vocês e aumentará os frutos da sua justiça.” (2 Coríntios 9:6-11)

“A totalidade dos que creram era um só coração e alma, e ninguém dizia que coisa alguma do que possuía era sua, mas tinham tudo em comum. E os apóstolos davam, com grande poder, o testemunho da ressurreição do Senhor Jesus, e em todos eles havia abundante graça. Não havia entre eles necessitado algum, pois todos os que possuíam terras ou casas, vendendo-as, traziam o preço da venda e o depositavam aos pés dos apóstolos, e era distribuído a cada um conforme a necessidade de cada um.” (Atos 4:32-37)

“Se alguém for ter convosco e não trouxer esta doutrina, não o recebais em casa, nem o saudeis, pois quem o saúda participa nas suas obras más.” (2 João 1:10–11)

“Pois ele quase morreu pela obra de Cristo, arriscando a sua vida para suprir o que faltava na obra que vocês me prestaram.” (Filipenses 2:30)

8. Recompensas espirituais e implicações eternas — Recompensas eternas pelo apoio ao trabalho do Evangelho.

9. Modelos e estruturas missionárias na Igreja primitiva — As igrejas primitivas organizavam apoio e comissionamento para missionários.

“Então os discípulos resolveram, cada um conforme as suas posses, enviar socorro aos irmãos que moravam na Judeia. E assim o fizeram, enviando-o aos anciãos por intermédio de Barnabé e Saulo.” (Atos 11:29-30)

Dali, navegaram para Antioquia, onde foram encomendados à graça de Deus para a obra que haviam realizado. Chegando lá, reuniram a igreja e relataram tudo o que Deus havia feito por meio deles e como abrira aos gentios a porta da fé. (Atos 14:26-28)

Depois disso, Paulo deixou Atenas e foi para Corinto. E encontrou um judeu chamado Áquila… e, como este era da mesma profissão, ficou com eles e trabalhou, pois eram fabricantes de tendas. Todos os sábados ele discutia na sinagoga e procurava persuadir judeus e gregos. Quando Silas e Timóteo chegaram da Macedônia, Paulo estava ocupado com a palavra…” (Atos 18:1-5)

“E, entrando na sinagoga, falou ousadamente por três meses, discutindo e persuadindo-os acerca do reino de Deus… Mas, como alguns se tornaram teimosos e continuaram na descrença… retirou-se deles, levando consigo os discípulos… Isto continuou por dois anos, de modo que todos os moradores da Ásia ouviram a palavra do Senhor, tanto judeus como gregos.” (Atos 19:8–10)

10. Qualificações e expectativas para missionários — Os missionários devem ensinar outros, nomear líderes e cumprir a missão do Evangelho.

“E o que de mim ouviste na presença de muitas testemunhas, isso mesmo transmite a homens fiéis e idôneos para também instruir a outros.” (2 Timóteo 2:2)

“Foi por isso que te deixei em Creta, para que pusesses em ordem o que ainda restava e em cada cidade constituísses anciãos, como te ordenei.” (Tito 1:5)

“Quanto a você, seja sempre sensato, suporte os sofrimentos, faça a obra de um evangelista, cumpra o seu ministério.” (2 Timóteo 4:5)

Ten Biblical principles on supporting missionaries

1. Direct commands to support missionaries — Christians commanded to spread Gospel, requiring sending and supporting.

“And Jesus came and said to them, ‘All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.’” (Matthew 28:18–20)

“And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.’” (Mark 16:15)

“How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 5. Financial giving and sacrificial support — Financial/material giving essential for mission work and an act of worship.

“We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints—and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us.” (2 Corinthians 8:1–5)

“The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, ‘He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.’ He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness.” (2 Corinthians 9:6–11)

10. Qualifications and expectations for missionaries — Missionaries must teach others, appoint leaders, fulfill Gospel mission.

“And what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also.” (2 Timothy 2:2)

“This is why I left you in Crete, so that you might put what remained into order, and appoint elders in every town as I directed you.” (Titus 1:5)
