Creation and the nature of God

1. The Beginning of Creation

·      Genesis 1: 1: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

·      Genesis 1: 31: “And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good.”

2. The Means and Process of Creation

·      Genesis 1: 3: “And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light.”

·      Genesis 2: 7: “Then the Lord God formed the man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living creature.”

3. God’s Sovereignty in Creation

·      Psalm 33: 6: “By the word of the Lord the heavens were made, and by the breath of his mouth all their host.”

·      Isaiah 45: 12: “I made the earth and created man on it; it was My hands that stretched out the heavens, and I commanded all their host.”

·      Job 38: 4: “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.”

4. God’s Creation of the Heavens

·      Isaiah 40: 28: “Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.”

·      Nehemiah 9: 6: “You are the Lord, you alone. You have made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them; and You preserve all of them; and the host of heaven worships You.”

5. All Things Created by God

·      Colossians 1: 16: “For by Him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through Him and for Him.”

·      Revelation 4: 11: “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for You created all things, and by Your will they existed and were created.”

6. God as Creator of Life

·      Acts 17: 24-25: “The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything.”

·      Psalm 139: 13-14: “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

7. The Purpose of Creation

·      Proverbs 16: 4: “The Lord has made everything for its purpose, even the wicked for the day of trouble.”

·      Isaiah 43: 7: “Everyone who is called by my name, whom I created for My glory, whom I formed and made.”

8. Creation Reflects God’s Power and Glory

·      Romans 1: 20: “For his invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made.”

·      Psalm 19: 1: “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims His handiwork.”

9. God Created Time, Space, and Matter

·      Hebrews 11: 3: “By faith we understand that the universe was created by the word of God, so that what is seen was not made out of things that are visible.”

·      John 1: 3: “All things were made through Him, and without Him was not any thing made that was made.” (NOTE: all things were made by God, through Jesus. Refer: John 1, Colossians 1:16-17, and Hebrews 1:2)

10. God’s Sustaining Power in Creation

·      Psalm 104: 24-25: “O Lord, how manifold are Your works! In wisdom have You made them all; the earth is full of Your creatures. Here is the sea, great and wide, which teems with creatures innumerable, living things both small and great.”

·      Colossians 1: 17: “And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.”
