Education and Knowledge

1. Knowing God and His Will

·      Proverbs 1: 7: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.”

·      Deuteronomy 6: 6-7: “And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

·      2 Timothy 3: 16-17: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.”

·      Proverbs 9: 10: “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.”

·      Psalm 78: 4-7: “We will not hide them from their children, but tell to the coming generation the glorious deeds of the Lord, and his might, and the wonders that he has done… that they should set their hope in God and not forget the works of God, but keep his commandments.”

·      Hosea 4: 6: “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge; because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the law of your God, I also will forget your children.”

·      Ecclesiastes 12: 13: “The end of the matter; all has been heard. Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.”

2. Teaching, Modeling, and Discipleship

·      Proverbs 22: 6: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

·      Colossians 3: 16: “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God.”

·      Isaiah 28: 9-10: “To whom will he teach knowledge, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast? For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little.”

·      Ephesians 6: 4: “Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.”

·      Matthew 28: 19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.”

·      Psalm 119: 11: “I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”

·      James 1: 5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.”

·      Luke 6: 40: “A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher.”

·      1 Thessalonians 2: 11-12: “For you know how, like a father with his children, we exhorted each one of you and encouraged you and charged you to walk in a manner worthy of God, who calls you into his own kingdom and glory.”

3. Outcome of Biblical Education: Wisdom, Character, and Service

·      Philippians 4: 9: “What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.”

·      Psalm 19: 7-8: “The law of the Lord is perfect, reviving the soul; the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple; the precepts of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart; the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.”

·      Proverbs 4: 5-7: “Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight.”

·      Colossians 1: 28: “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.”

·      1 Corinthians 8: 1: “We know that ‘all of us possess knowledge.’ This ‘knowledge’ puffs up, but love builds up.”

·      Daniel 1: 17: “As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.”

·      2 Peter 1: 5-8: “For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

·      Hebrews 12: 11: “For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.”

·      Matthew 22: 37: “And he said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’”
