Attributes of God

1. The Holiness of God

·      Exodus 15: 11: “Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods? Who is like You, majestic in holiness, awesome in glorious deeds, doing wonders?”

·      Leviticus 11: 44: “For I am the Lord your God. Consecrate yourselves therefore, and be holy, for I am holy.”

·      Isaiah 6: 3: “And one called to another and said: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of His glory!’”

·      1 Samuel 2: 2: “There is none holy like the Lord: for there is none besides You; there is no rock like our God.”

·      Revelation 4: 8: “Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!”

2. The Justice of God

·      Deuteronomy 32: 4: “The Rock, his work is perfect, for all His ways are justice. A God of faithfulness and without iniquity, just and upright is He.”

·      Psalm 9: 7-8: “But the Lord sits enthroned forever; He has established His throne for justice, and He judges the world with righteousness; He judges the peoples with uprightness.”

·      Isaiah 30: 18: “For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for Him.”

·      Psalm 89: 14: “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne; steadfast love and faithfulness go before You.”

·      Romans 2: 6: “He will render to each one according to his works.”

3. The Love of God

·      John 3: 16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.”

·      1 John 4: 8: “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”

·      Romans 5: 8: “But God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

·      Psalm 136: 1: “Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever.”

·      Zephaniah 3: 17: “The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by his love.”

4. The Omnipotence of God

·      Genesis 18: 14: “Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, about this time next year, and Sarah shall have a son.”

·      Job 42: 2: “I know that You can do all things, and that no purpose of Yours can be thwarted.”

·      Psalm 115: 3: “Our God is in the heavens; He does all that He pleases.”

·      Jeremiah 32: 17: “Ah, Lord God! It is You who have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too hard for You.”

·      Revelation 19: 6: “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns.”

5. Omniscience – God knows everything.

·      Psalm 147: 5: “Great is our Lord, and abundant in power; His understanding is beyond measure.”

·      Proverbs 15: 3: “The eyes of the Lord are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.”

·      Isaiah 46: 9-10: “I am God, and there is none like Me, declaring the end from the beginning.”

6. Omnipresence – God is present everywhere at all times.

·      Psalm 139: 7-10: “Where shall I go from Your Spirit? Or where shall I flee from Your presence?”

·      Jeremiah 23: 23-24: “Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see Him?”

·      Acts 17: 27-28: “Yet He is actually not far from each one of us, for ‘In Him we live and move and have our being.’”

7. Sovereignty – God rules over all creation with supreme authority and control.

·      Isaiah 46: 10: “My counsel shall stand, and I will accomplish all my purpose.”

·      Daniel 4: 35: “He does according to His will among the host of heaven and among the inhabitants of the earth.”

·      Romans 8: 28: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good.”

8. Faithfulness – God is completely reliable and true to His promises.

·      Lamentations 3: 22-23: “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.”

·      Deuteronomy 7: 9: “Know therefore that the Lord your God is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and steadfast love.”

·      2 Timothy 2: 13: “If we are faithless, He remains faithful—for He cannot deny Himself.”

9. Goodness – God is the ultimate standard of good and the source of all blessings.

·      Psalm 34: 8: “Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him.”

·      Nahum 1: 7: “The Lord is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble.”

·      James 1: 17: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights.”

10. Immutability – God is constant and unchanging in His nature.

·      1 Samuel 15:29: “And also the Glory of Israel will not lie or have regret, for he is not a man, that he should have regret.”

·      Malachi 3: 6: “For I the Lord do not change.”

·      James 1: 17: “… with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.”

·      Hebrews 6:17-18: “So when God desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us.” (NOTE: the oath/promise is explained in verses 15-17)

11. Mercy – God withholds deserved punishment and extends compassion.

·      Psalm 103: 8: “The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.”

·      Ephesians 2: 4-5: “But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.”

·      Micah 7: 18: “Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity and passing over transgression?”

12. Wrath – God opposes sin and will judge the wicked.

·      Romans 1: 18: “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.”

·      Nahum 1: 2-3: “The LORD is a jealous and avenging God; the LORD takes vengeance and is fierce in wrath.”

·      John 3: 36: “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God remains on him.”

13. Patience – God is slow to anger and shows long-suffering.

·      2 Peter 3: 9: “The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you.”

·      Exodus 34: 6: “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger.”

·      Romans 2: 4: “Or do you presume on the riches of His kindness and forbearance and patience?”

14. Wisdom – God perfectly applies His knowledge to accomplish His purposes.

·      Romans 11: 33: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God!”

·      Proverbs 3: 19: “The LORD by wisdom founded the earth; by understanding He established the heavens.”

·      James 1: 5: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach.”

15. Glory – God’s beauty, majesty, and perfection are revealed and praised.

·      Isaiah 42: 8: “I am the LORD; that is my name; my glory I give to no other.”

·      Habakkuk 2: 14: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD.”

·      Revelation 21: 23: “The city has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light.”
